During one of my recent shopping trips at Goodwill I came across an interesting spice rack. I haven’t seen this style before, and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect for a project I had in mind. Today I’m showing you how I made repurposed a spice rack in to a Twine Holder.
Supplies:
Old spice rack
Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint
Americana Decor Creme Wax
Foam brushes
Soft white lint-free cloth
Firm bristled brush
Okay here is the before pic. I paid $3 for this spice rack, and guess what? I came home and googled it. Want to know how much it costs new? Of course you do…$40, go here and see. This particular one I found had some spilled paint, other than that it’s in great shape. Those holes are the perfect size for twine!
I know you’ve heard me say how much I love the Americana Decor Chalky Finish paints, and I really really do! I chose to use them for this project since they cover so well. I gave my spice rack a quick light sanding to remove some of that spilled paint, normally I wouldn’t sand. I just needed to get rid of the uneven texture first.
There are so many dreamy colors in this chalky finish line, I chose to go with something bright and cheerful so I picked “Delicate”.
I used a foam brush to apply my chalky finish paint. It took about 2 coats to cover the entire surface.
When everything was dry I used some clear creme wax on the entire piece. I used a foam brush to apply it, and it only needed one coat. Once dry I applied some of the colored creme wax with a stiff dry bristled brush to give it some aging. Normally I would distress my piece by sanding, but since this item was such light wood underneath I chose to use the creme wax.
Once it was all dry I used a white soft lint-free cloth, and old white t-shirt works perfect. Then I buffed the entire spice rack. This will bring out the shine and the smooth finish.
Didn’t it turn out so cute?! I love this, I had been looking for something to hold all my pretty twine. And look at that I still have four empty spots for more twine, I need to buy more!
Don’t forget that you can find the entire line of Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint at The Home Depot online currently. There are so many colors to choose from and the price point is awesome. I hope you will try it and tell me how you love it too!

I met this style somewhere not in my country. I think that if more people knew as initial combination, we will enjoy a lot of strange beauty

What a great idea!! My craft supplies are in shambles so I’m always looking out for way to organize them better.
I’m going to look for something like this when I hit up Goodwill this weekend.

Love your treasure find!!! I need one for my craft paint!!! I have been to Home Depot to search for this paint only to be told they don’t have it. I found it online but I’m scared to purchase it without seeing its true color first. Do you have any insider info on when this paint will be in stores?? I heard a rumor it is April???
