Start by dumping all your ingredients in to a pot, including glitter. Stir together well. Once it’s all mixed together you put in over a medium heat on the stove and continue to mix. Do Not Stop Stirring It! Your dough will start to thicken and get lumpy. Keep stirring. Eventually it all comes together and becomes a big ball of dough on your spoon. Your done.
Now empty it on to a clean surface and begin to knead it by hand until you feel it is all smooth. Once it’s ready let it cool a bit in an airtight container, or wrap it in plastic wrap and then in a ziplock bag.
The glitter just adds an extra special touch of shimmer, you can use silver glitter if you want it to really sparkle.

I will def be making this with Elle. We made gingerbread playdough and then I had some of her bday party guests decorate them with m&m’s at her party.
This is such a great gift for the kiddos at school. Very nice of you.

We have used baby oil in place of the vegetable oil and omit the peppermint. The dough has a nice soft fresh smell.

Hi! Thanks for this lovely recipe! I was wondering if you can use coconut oil (just because I don’t like the smell of vegetable oil and I don’t have any peppermint or other scented oils on hand) instead? Also, do you have a specific amount of time that it should be stirred in the pot? I only ask because while I was kneading it afterwards, it felt a bit doughy and was coming off on my fingers (kind of like wet clay?)
Thanks for your time!!

Hi Jami. Thanks for asking. As far as the coconut oil goes I’d imagine it would work fine, but I’m not 100% sure since I’ve never tried it. It sounds like a great alternative though, so I might have to give it a try. For the stirring time, there really is no set time, it’s basically just when everything comes together and forms a ball around the spoon. You could just give it another additional minute of cooking time while continuing to stir and see if that helps. 🙂

Hi Kristin,
It would really depend on how big the container is you’re using. If you’re using 2oz portion size containers you could probably make about 5 of those with one batch. I apologize for the delayed response.
