In this family, Legos are a huge must have. They get passed down from family members even, so when I started thinking about my oldest’s 7th birthday I knew it had to be Lego! This Lego Birthday Party theme was pretty easy to throw together. With some easy DIY projects and party decor, the kids will have a blast.
Most of the Lego themed parties you typically see featured online have a primary color palette. Since that didn’t really appeal to me I went with a more mature color palette for this party. I decided on a rich yellow that Lego is famous for, black, gray, and white. It was just perfect for someone turning 7.
The backdrop was easy to create with some black curtains I had on hand and some signature Lego yellow fabric. I drape them over a pvc pipe and hang it behind my table.
I usually make a majority of the decorations for our kids parties, and this year I wanted to try to make as much as I could for the whole party. I made all the invitations, decorations, the pinata (while it was nothing fancy I can assure you they loved it), the cupcake toppers, all the signage, the backdrop and banners, and the Lego figure logo was one I created in photoshop.
The banner was before the days of having a cutting machine. I cut everything with a paper-cutter. The letters are printed on white cardstock and cut by hand. Everything was then assembled and glued.
The cupcake toppers were made with Lego head images I found online, the Lego mini figure silhouette image was one I created special for this party. I printed everything and used a circle punch to cut it all.
For the favors, I made coloring / activity books for each child to take home. I searched for free printable pages online.
There were also Lego shaped crayons I made using a Lego ice mold. The rice crispy pops were pretty fun to make too.
I made these key chains for the kids, I thought it would be fun for them to add them to their backpacks. They are so easy to make. Grab your favorite Lego bricks and a small drill bit to drill a hole in one end. Attach key chain parts and you’re done.
Each child went home with a mini Lego kit, if you watch after Christmas sales at Target they go on clearance from the stocking stuffer section. You can also find them on clearance after Easter and Valentine’s Day sometimes.
One of the fun games included guessing how many Legos were in the jar. We also built a small Lego play table for the kids to play at since we were outdoors.
We also had to have the tradition of a pinata, but finding one that fit our budget and theme was too hard. So I ran out of time and made this beauty. If you have a cardboard box, tape, candy, and a few pieces of paper you can make a quick pinata. They all work the same way, plus you’re just going to beat it to death…so simple was good for this.
I am so pleased with how everything turned out and my son loved it all. He said it was his favorite party to date. Planning their parties and adding all the special touches, especially the items I make means so much to me…my goal is that someday they will have these incredible memories of the love that went into planning each party for them.

Pinterest has led to a lot of fun for party planning. Everyone thinks they need to spend a ton or have the party somewhere crazy! It’s so great to see other moms that have as much fun as I do planning the parties for their kids. I know my kids always rave about how much fun it is to have their friends over for their birthdays.
