By now you know just how much I love making handmade ornaments each year for my tree. Since I usually pick a new theme or color palette each year hand making some of the ornaments really helps to save money and add the custom look I want. These DIY Black & White Geometric Ornaments are some of my latest.
Supplies:
geometric shaped paper mache ornaments
white acrylic paint
black acrylic paint or black permanent marker (you choose which to use)
foam paint brush
small detail paint brush
wood beads (optional)
copper spray paint (optional)
copper wire or thread (optional)
Start by giving each paper mache ornament a couple coats of white acrylic paint. Set aside and let dry.
Once dry use a small detail paint brush and black acrylic paint to follow the design lines from each ornament shape. Paint carefully to get steady lines. Set aside to dry.
If you decide that the fine detailing painting just isn’t your thing, you can use a black permanent marker and just carefully draw the lines. Whatever way you choose to do it will be perfect.
I cut the original gold thread hangers that came on these paper mache ornaments and instead I used some copper wire I had on hand to create some new hangers. Just hot glue them into the tops of each ornament.
I also spray painted some wood beads in a couple of sizes. These will go on top and bottom of the ornaments with some hot glue to give it a finished look.
I love how easy these were to make and that I have custom ornaments for my tree without breaking the bank.
