It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is just a month away. This year I want to do something a little different and have some friends over for some sweet treats with their kiddo’s. I want to keep things simple, but I also wanted to have some really cute decor that would work all year long if I wanted to keep it up. This Black & Gold Valentine’s Wood Banner is perfect!
Supplies:
Wood banner, found HERE or HERE
DecoArt Americana acrylic paint, black and white
DecoArt Decoupage, matte
DecoArt Dazzling Metallics acrylic paint, glorious gold
Vinyl heart stencil or heart shaped stickers
Painters tape
Cricut Explore cutting machine, optional
Foam paint brush, you’ll need at least 3
Start by painting all the wood banner pieces white, you will need two coats of paint. Set aside to dry.
While the white paint is drying you can use that time to cut your vinyl heart stickers with your cutting machine. If you don’t have a cutting machine don’t worry, you can just use heart shaped stickers. The ones I cut with my machine were about an inch wide.
Once the base coat of white paint is dry you can apply your hearts and stripes.
For my stripes, I used painters tape that was about 1/2″ wide. You can also use washi tape for this if you’re in a pinch. Just be sure to press down the edges really good when you apply it.
Apply the heart vinyl stickers as well, being sure to press down all the edges.
To get super crisp lines when painting the wood banner I used a little Decoupage and gave each wood banner piece a quick coat of the matte sealer after I put on the stickers and tape. This will ensure I get crisp lines when I paint.
Using a foam brush paint your black stripes. Two coats should do.
For the gold heart pieces use the glorious gold paint with a foam brush, this may take several coats to get a bright opaque finish.
Promptly, but carefully remove the tape and stickers to reveal the patterns.
I set my Black & Gold Valentine’s Wood Banner up with a cute little sweet treat station for the kiddo’s. I added a plain wood heart banner and other gold accessories I had on hand to tie it all together.
I love this banner so much, I can use it all year long since it has a neutral color combo.
I wanted to show you how cute it looked styled for a non-party look too, I love it.
