Summer break is over and it’s time to send those kiddo’s back to school. Every year I love sending the kids back with a little something for the teacher just to make their first day back special too. This teacher gift idea is super sweet and uses one of my favorite crafting tools to make it.
A back to school teacher gift doesn’t have to be anything big, I usually like to keep the gift idea under $5. In years past I’ve put together fun supplies like dry erase markers, highlighters, even a sweet treat. This year I thought it would be fun to give one of my favorite things, a succulent. Not just a plain succulent but one dressed up like a pineapple of course. This Pineapple Vase Back to School Teacher Gift Idea & Printable Tags were made with the help of my favorite crafting tool the Cricut Maker and the new Scoring Wheel.
You already know how much I love the Cricut Maker, and I’m pretty sure I’ve raved about the adaptive tools that make the Maker so amazing. The newest adaptive tool to the Maker line is the Single and Double Scoring Wheel. This little tool is what made this project so easy to make. In the past, I would have had to use a bone folder to create sharp creases and lines in projects or even the original scoring stylus with the Cricut Explore Air.
The Cricut Scoring Wheel uses up to 10X the pressure of the scoring stylus so you can make perfect, effortless folds on your projects. It allows you to make more crease-and-fold projects than ever before.
Let’s get started, here’s how to make this super cute Pineapple Vase Back to School Teacher Gift Idea with Printable Tags:
Supplies:
- Cricut Maker
- Cricut Single Scoring Wheel (coming soon)
- Cricut 12 x 14″ Cardstock
- Cricut Cutting Mat
- Cricut Fine Point Blade
- Glue gun
- Cute succulent or small plant that resembles a pineapple top
- Paper Pineapple Vase cut file found HERE
- Printable tags found HERE
Start by opening the cut file HERE. You can customize it or just click Make It if you’re good with the size. This vase is about 7″ tall and was the perfect size for our plant. Design space will tell you exactly when to change tools for this project. First, you’ll start with the single scoring wheel. The single scoring wheel is perfect for everyday materials from thin papers on up to cardstock.
It will score all the lines that need to be folded. Design Space will then tell you when to swap out the scoring wheel for the fine point blade which will then cut the design out.
It’s time to assemble our paper pineapple vase. You can see below how I folded the two pieces my maker scored and cut. You can see all the instructions for this project HERE. I love how easy this was to create, look at all the facets the folds create!
Next hot glue the ends together. Then you can start closing the vase up, it should look like this at the bottom when you’re done. The star piece that was cut will also need to be hot glued to the bottom. Then hot glue the last side of the vase shut.
I took a small glass candle holder and used it as my vase, you can choose anything slender and tall enough to put inside the paper vase. My glass vase was filled small white gravel for drainage and soil on top, then I added my succulents. They look so much like the tops of pineapples, right?
Once the vase is finished it’s time to add a cute tag. This printable is available for free and you can download it by clicking the link below. After downloading the printables you can open the file in a program like Word, Publisher, or Photoshop. You can resize the image to fit your vase or printing needs. Then print on matte photo paper or white cardstock for best results. Just hot glue your tag to a wooden skewer and cut to fit your plant.
